It's easier to forgive when you believe eternity is on your side. Otherwise, you become what you're trying to fight. It's not just religion but other groups from atheists to activists and gangs to revolutionaries. You need that peace of mind, otherwise it's like trying to do math while being whipped. The pain of incoming death is real. People need hope. That's really what faith is. It's just hope with a promise attached to it. People don't have to be perfect to be good. Judging others is a bit antisocial and takes hope away. The bible, in spite of being tampered with says we should visit prisons and administer/fellowship to cons. Why? They've feelings and have worth to God. So what about those outside of prison? If you look at it in a secular perspective they're victims of poverty, abuse, mental illness, crime. Yes, criminals, even gangs are much more likely to be victimized than the average person. There's constant danger. So, if you can't really judge a criminal, how much less can you judge a lawful person? Atheism did a number on me especially because of my TBI. So did additional TBI injuries, sleep deprivation, harassment and persecution, exposure to the elements, being contaminated by drug users with their drugs against my will, and so on. So I'm going to be conservative now. There's no joy or safety otherwise. There's no self-respect and dignity for me otherwise.
