Temptation is provocation, intimidation and deception

Tempting or provoking or deceiving someone is attempting to take them down. Permanently. Who is punished when a messenger dies? The message? The messenger? Or the killer? The messenger is at once, one with God, love and the Universe when he's not bound by a mortal body. The message is, and always will be, even before the messenger ever was. Even in hurting yourselves you cannot touch the message. You may cease to be, yet the message still lives, unharmed. You may cease to love, but love remains unharmed, forever. Do you, then, only punish yourselves? When you realize you've denied those that live and loved, or need life and love, you will already know the answer, because love and God already know, and they already see.
